My sister and I were talking one day and she asked the question...
"What is beautifies the meek?"
Honestly, all I could say was that it was in scripture and I liked the name. I reflected later on and wondered if that was really how I felt. Then I thought about other people coming across my content and wondering why I chose the name. Well, this is a new year and I think it's that time to reintroduce the blog and its purpose.
I started this blog years ago (can't remember when) with the purpose of creating content around modesty and style. I felt like God was calling me to start this blog. I couldn't get the idea out of my head, it was as if it wouldn't leave until I started. So I did, and here we are. The name of this blog did come from scripture, Psalm 149:4.
- For the Lord taketh pleasure in his people: he will beautify the meek with salvation. -
I saw this scripture and it leaped out at me and I was like, THIS IS IT! haha. Just this sweet reminder that God beautifies us with his salvation. It's not just about what we put on our bodies but it's what we put our identity in. I loved style and I was very new to the modesty world and I wished I had something I could look at to get ideas or encouragement. Transitioning from one denomination to another can be difficult at times. I was at a trinitarian church and I felt God leading me somewhere else. It happened to be a Oneness church, Apostolic - Pentecostal. The transition for me was seamless honestly, I had no trouble conforming to the standards. My heart was already captivated with Jesus, wherever he wanted me to go was where I wanted to be. I started posting and sharing my thoughts on modesty and style. Time progressed and I found myself going through deep theological struggles. I did a lot of soul searching, praying, talking to wise counsel, and studying. Once I got my footing theologically, I started to think more deeply into modesty. I was looking at the topic of modesty on a surface level. I was taught modesty more on a surface level of what to wear so the brothers don't get tempted. Anything tight makes you look like a hussy. If we always start there, modesty will be a topic people will shut down quick.
So I meditated on the topic and I decided that I don't feel comfortable pushing the Apostolic-Pentecostal modesty agenda. Don't be concerned I am still abiding by the standards but this blog is bigger than Apostolic, bigger than COOLJC, bigger than any man-made system. Of course, when it comes to style, I wear skirts but I don't want the sister who wears pants to feel left out of the conversation. What good is ministry if it only reaches the church? The world is our goal. Telling people about Jesus is our goal. So my focus on this blog is to give you more JESUS and tackling heart issues together.
So join me on this journey of understanding modesty on a deeper level.
