HEY! so this post is actually a post I have been wanting to do for such a long time. probably since I started this blog. I just never had the time to do it so, here I am, with time on my hands.
HERE WE GO!
So it's safe to say that it is not easy being modest in such an immodest world but I always believe that God would never call us to do something we can't do. It may seem impossible or just too hard but it is possible my friends. I have been saved for 3 years now and it has been a journey. Becoming Apostolic definitely changed the way I dressed and my view on what modesty is all about.
Don't get it twisted… Modesty is not just about skirts below the knees or necklines up to your chin but it is also about your heart.
What are your intentions?
Is there a hidden agenda when you dress?
Where is your mindset when you put on clothes?
I honestly never thought about any of these things when I was in the world. I am way more intentional now and obviously more aware of what my clothes say about me. Since I have started this journey I have learned a few tips and tricks when it comes to modesty. I would really like to share some with you and most or some may be things you do already.
Tip #1
Camis
Ever been shopping and you find the cutest top on the rack. Pick it up and what do you see a PLUNGING neckline. -___- <----- That's how my face looks when that happens, which is often. but no worries I can just put on a cami and voila all is well. Most shirts have very low necklines and some of us are just BLESSED on top. so an extra layer is always welcome. Plus camis are light so it doesn't feel like you have a lot of clothes on.
Tip #2
Slips/Skirt Extenders
So these are amazing and they make me feel super secure in my skirts and dresses. They help to keep your dress or skirt in tact and also help to prevent your garments getting stuck between the cheeks… *awkward much* but I have seen that happen where a young lady was sitting down all service goes to get up and their skirt is not where it was supposed to be. I never used to like wearing slips but now I can't get enough. Skirt extenders are also a cute and great way to make those dresses that are too short more modest.
Tip #3
Under ARMOR
If you are on the curvier side like me! Strong tight under armor is SO NECESSARY! It's distracting when a young lady is walking around and all her stuff is jiggling underneath her clothes. Not cool ladies, Not cool!! My first lady always talks to us about under armor and making sure that everything stays put. lol! especially when the Holy Spirit starts dancing then…you're going to need this armor even more. HAHA!
Tip #4
Stockings/Tights
I always wear tights or stockings whenever I wear knee length skirts or dresses. I feel naked without them…lol. Longer skirts I don't bother wearing tights because my legs aren't seen. They bring style and comfort to an outfit and are a great way to keep warm in the cooler months.
Tip #5
Safety Pins
OH Safety pin how I love thee!! These little boogers are LIFESAVERS! There have been so many times where I have needed a safety pin to make sure I look well put together. The question among the sisters at my church is " You got a safety pin?" lol. Safety pins are a great way to make sure bra straps aren't showing or anything else that should be hidden.
Tip #6
Cardigans, Jackets
This is a no brainer but I wanted to include it because I love these. They are a fun and easy way to jazz up an outfit. These allow us to wear sleeveless dresses and spaghetti straps. I am always wearing a cardigan or blazer possibly my favorite part of the outfit.
Tip #7
Halftees
I found these on Pinterest and I thought these were genius! sometimes when I am wearing a maxi dress the problem that I have is my shirt rolling up underneath my dress. That gets SO annoying! it just adds an extra roll I already have some of my own I don't need anymore. lol. This solves that issue, super cool idea. You can wear these with summer dresses on days where it gets hot.
You can purchase your very own right here…
I hope you enjoyed these tips! Let me know if this was a help! Also I would love to hear some of your tips you can share in the comments below.
