Completing Your Look: Letting Your Personality Shine!

by Beautifies The Meek, 7:33 PM
One of the things I really want to do on this blog is share the wisdom and lessons that I get through the bible studies that go on at my church. This was from a woman's bible study we had last night. My friends Gabby and Wendy put together an amazing presentation on personalities and how they can glorify God. The one thing I love about God is that he is an on time God. This study was so on time for me because I was struggling with my personality and many other things that I am working on. I am at a place where all I want to do is grow in the Lord and be whatever he wants me to be even if it means being something that I am scared to be.

So I have been feeling like I needed to change my personality and who I was as a person. I dislike the fact that I am quiet (introvert!!) and that I don't have much to say. Sometimes I don't like how goofy I can be, I tend to think that people view me as a jokester and there's more to me than my jokes and goofiness. I wonder if people can see that I can be serious and wise. I really dislike how shy I am around people; it's crazy how I can be so outgoing with my church family but when I get around new people I am quiet and I don't say anything. lol. Some people are shocked when they see how I am with my friends...lol I must admit I am pretty peculiar. Traits that I view as negative people view them as positives. I sat with a friend of mine and expressed to her how I was feeling and she couldn't believe that I wanted to change my personality. Not realizing that I honestly can't "CHANGE" my personality. I wanted to share some things the girls (MY GIRLS) brought up during their presentation.

First of all our personalities are crafted to the plan God has for us.

For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, saith the Lord, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you an expected end.
- Jeremiah 29:11

I never realized that when God formed us in our mother's womb that he intentionally crafted our personalities to fit the plan he has for our life! It makes so much sense! I love how detailed God is when it comes to our futures, he knew that our personalities would have to work with our careers or future ministries.

For we are his workmanship created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them.
- Ephesians 2:10

Having then gifts differing according to the grace that is given to us, whether prophecy, let us prophesy according to the proportion of faith; or ministry, let us wait on our ministering: or he that teacheth, on teaching; or he that exhorteth, on exhortation: he that giveth, let him do it with simplicity; he that ruleth, with diligence; he that sheath mercy, with cheerfulness. - Romans 12:6-8

For the body is not one member, but many. If the foot shall say, because I am not the hand, I am not of the body; is it therefore not of the body? And if the ear shall say, because I am not the eye, I am not of the body; is it therefore not of the body? If the whole body were an eye, where were the hearing? If the whole were hearing, where were the smelling? But not hath God set the members every one of them in the body, as it hath pleased him.
- 1 Corinthians 12:14-18

Each of us have different personalities and gifts for the kingdom. These scriptures show that when God made each and every one of us his intention was to make us different from each other. I love that we all were created by the same God but we all came out so differently. We all have different gifts and personalities that he placed in us. We are his workmanship, his masterpieces! We are his most loved creation and he has placed amazing, important gifts in us to glorify him with. The one scripture that really encourages me is 1 Corinthians 12:14-18. Sometimes I feel as though my place in the kingdom is not important or that my gift isn't good enough. I often find myself wishing I had other people's gifts and other people's personalities and I am realizing that comparing myself to others is a sin in itself.

Comparing yourself tells God that he made a mistake when he made you. That he is not the God that he said he was in his word. Comparing ourselves to others basically strips God of his integrity and character. Thats not good. One thing that makes me sad is when someone hates the way they look or they're depressed about things that they can't change about themselves. Imagine how God feels when we compare ourselves to others. If every member in the body of Christ was a preacher...who would sing the songs? Who would minister to the widows? Who would be the door keeper? God wants us all to have that revelation that we are all important to the body that he has given us all a purpose to fulfill in this world for his glory. No gift is greater than the other, No body is better than someone else; we all play a part in God's plan of redemption.

Think of the bigger picture; when we do our part in the body and we are obedient someone else is blessed through our submission to Christ. So there is a lot riding on our understanding of obedience. I know it's not easy especially when you have been told that your gift or personality was not good enough but what does the word say?

When we get saved everything changes but our personalities. There is no other you. No personality is a mistake! One thing that really stuck out to me was how there is one Holy Spirit living on the inside of his people but that same spirit is reflected uniquely/differently through each of us. God's desire was not to create robots that acted the same, talked the same, dressed the same, thought the same; if that really were true it would be a boring world. Being that I am apostolic the women do all wear skirts and dresses but we wear them so differently! Our personalities shine through our style.

So ask yourself this question... How can my personality glorify God?

Doesn't matter if you're an introvert or extrovert the way God has sculpted you from your appearance to your personality is beautiful and he LOVES YOU the way you are. We may not see the power of our personality but God does! So let him use you for his glory.

When God made you he was intentional!

  1. great post! girl, the points you brought out in the blog are excellent! you, wendy, and I couldn't be more different. The three of us have such different personalities, but God uses each of us in our friendship and in His Kingdom..and He was INTENTIONAL about making us unique!!

sometimes we say "Lord, all I want to do is please you". Well, the best way to please Him is to be just who He called us to be and do what He called us to do! Why? We were crafted by God to be who we are, because the way He made us PLEASED HIM! When we are who we were created to be, we give God joy.

    What a beautiful thing!
